Further glass product, namely processed glass, is produced by using a formed flat glass (such as float glass, flat drawing glass, horizontal drawing glass, rolling glass) as the basic raw material and adopted different processing technology according to the operational requirements. Compared with primary glass product, the processed glass has many specific functions, which are mainly as follows:
1. Enhance the strength and the safety of glass.
In recent years, because of the undersized debris of broken tempered glass, people developed a new product called thermal enhanced glass (semi –tempered glass). The product is more applicable to large glass curtain wall for it is unexplosive.
2. Change the geometry of flat glass.
As we all know, flat glass is generally smooth, but people often need some of arc or curved glass in use. So, it needs to change the geometry of flat glass. At present, products mainly are arc-bending glass, glass fruit tray, glass lid, and etc. However, they are mostly of the same forming mechanism.
3. Glass surface treatment.
Glass surface treatment consists of two aspects: one is to enrich the glass surface, namely, the use of physical or chemical means to draw different patterns on a glass surface; the other is the coating on glass surface.
4. Add the functions of heat preservation and noise insulation.
It’s known that the weaknesses of doors and windows of buildings are the heat preservation and energy saving. The heat transfer coefficient of an ordinary single-layer glass window is 6.0 W/M2.K. In order to meet people’s need for heat-preservation and noise-insulation windows, hollow glass comes into being. Then inflatable hollow glass and vacuum glass are also developed.
5. The direction for the development of processed glass in China.
There are varieties of processed glass products, but basically they include: machining products (polished glass, sand blasting or frosted glass, sprayed glass, sculptured glass), heat-treated products (tempered glass, semi-tempered glass, curved glass, glazed glass, stained glass), chemical treatment products (chemical tempered glass, mat etching glass, smooth etching glass), coated glass (heat absorbing glass, heat-reflective glass, Low-E glass, pearl satin glass, frost shield, anti-ultraviolet glass, electromagnetic shielding glass, water-repellent glass, aluminum mirror, silver mirror), hollow glass (ordinary hollow glass, vacuum glass, inflatable hollow glass), laminated glass (PV film laminated glass, EN film laminated glass, decorative laminated glass, bullet-proof glass, security glass, fire-resistant glass, etc.), filmed glass (bullet-proof glass, laser glass, sun-shading & heat insulating glass, patterned glass), colored glass (radiation-colored glass, staining glass), specially processed glass (laser cut glass, electron beam processed glass, photochromic glass, electrochromic glass, antiseptic glass, self-cleaning glass, mildew proofing & deodorizing glass). It shows that the deep processing of flat glass is not just using a single technology and methods in production, but a variety of technologies integrated. The processed products are more complex in its application, like laminated-hollow glass.
In short, as production technology of processed glass is relatively mature in China, glass companies should enhance its R&D of modified materials by integrated or compounded with glass, so that processed glass products can be directed to the multi-functionally compound, environmental and smart ones. |
